Lead Diesel Mechanic I (Red Seal)
Location: Edmonton South, Alberta Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Pay: $44.00 to $48.00 per hour base, plus a lead differential on top
You've got your ticket, you've got the years, and lately you're the one everybody in the shop walks over to when a job goes sideways. That's a lead hand doing lead work without the title or the pay that goes with it.
This is the title and the pay. Straight days, Monday to Friday, home for supper, on a well-maintained fleet with current diagnostic equipment. You'll still have your hands on the tools, but you'll also be the one setting the standard on the floor.
What you'll be doing
- Diagnosing, overhauling and repairing tractors and trailers across the fleet
- Major component work: engines, transmissions, differentials, turbochargers, fuel systems, complete assemblies
- Air and hydraulic brake systems, steering, wheel ends, suspension, HVAC
- Preventive maintenance at all levels, documented properly
- Identifying warrantable repairs and writing them up
- Road testing units before they go back into service
- Giving direction to the apprentices and second-year hands, and helping them get their hours right
- Being the technical point of contact on the floor for the tough diagnostics
What you bring
- Red Seal or Alberta Journeyperson Certificate in Heavy Equipment Technician or Truck and Transport Mechanic
- 5+ years hands-on tractor-trailer experience
- Some leadership experience, whether that was a formal lead hand role or just being the one people ask
- Class 3 licence with air brake (Q) endorsement, or the ability to obtain it within six months
- Full set of hand tools
- Current registration with Alberta's apprenticeship and industry training authority
What it actually pays
- $44.00 to $48.00 per hour base
- Lead differential paid on top of base for the lead title
- Shift premiums where applicable: $3.00 evening, $4.00 overnight, $3.00 weekend
- Overtime available and paid at premium rates
- RRSP with company match
- Affordable health and dental benefits
- Annual tool and boot allowance
- Uniforms supplied and laundered
- Vacation, 11 paid statutory holidays, and paid sick days
- Tuition reimbursement and OEM factory training
- Employee and Family Assistance Program
Interested?
Reach out and we'll go through the shop, the crew and the full number including the lead differential. Confidential from the first call.
